Dry Bulks

Large quantities of grain are handled at Lowestoft, and a versatile 14,000-tonne capacity silo and storage facility at Silo Quay, operated by Plasmor (Lowestoft) Ltd, accommodates a range of bulk materials, including grain and cement. The port also handles aggregates imports on behalf of Waveney Asphalt Ltd.

Forest Products

The port handles timber from Scandinavia and the Baltic states on a regular basis. Extensive storage facilities provide high-quality open and covered quayside storage.

General Cargo

The port’s Inner and Outer Harbours can accommodate project and specialised cargoes from a number of locations. The North Quay Container Terminal provides mobile cranage, together with 16,000 sq m of storage for forest products, steel, containers and general cargo.

Liquid Bulks

Bunker-fuel shipments are regularly received by Lowestoft. A tank-farm facility with a pipeline is available at the port’s Hamilton Dock.

Offshore Opportunities

The Port of Lowestoft plays an increasingly important role in supporting North Sea oil and gas operations and the renewable-energy sector. SLP Engineering Ltd offers extensive facilities for the construction of large topside-deck structures and jackets destined for the North Sea and other oil and gas fields.

SLP Energy, a subsidiary of SLP Engineering Ltd, was established to provide dedicated solutions for the growing needs of the renewable-energy markets. AKD Engineering also offers fabrication facilities within the Inner Harbour. The port is home to a substantial fleet of offshore standby/supply vessels operated by Seacor Marine (International) Ltd. Varco Ltd operates a mud-cutting reprocessing facility located within the Inner Harbour.

The port also provides facilities for ship repairs, including a dry dock.
