Dry Bulks Ball clay is the port’s principal traffic, with approximately 400,000 tonnes exported by WBB Minerals and Imerys to destinations throughout Europe. The port also handles animal feed and a wide variety of other dry bulks, such as grain, agribulks, stone chippings, salt and forest products. Recently, the port’s bulk trade was bolstered by a new 25-year agreement with Civil & Marine Cement Slag Co. Ltd to import blast-furnace slag from Corus’s plant at Port Talbot. Two 50-tonne weighbridges and two modern loading shovels are dedicated to animal-feed handling. The port’s total on-site storage capacity has increased to 150,000 sq ft. Open storage is available for timber cargoes, and the port handles both pre- and un-slung timber. The port can cater for vessels of up to 120 m in length and with 5 m draught. A computer-control system provides real-time stock control, delivery programmes and material traceability. Teignmouth’s warehouse facilities all have load-bearing walls and are capable of storing virtually any type of cargo. Ro-Ro Teignmouth is also the nominated ro-ro port for abnormal loads in the region, and has a section of reinforced quay for abnormal heavy ro-ro loads.
