ABP TO INVEST £1 MILLION IN NEW TERMINAL FACILITIES AT PORT OF IMMINGHAM
Associated British Ports (ABP), the UK’s largest ports operator, is to invest around £1 million in a brand-new storage and distribution facility at its Port of Immingham. The investment follows the signing of a new 10-year agreement with port customer Rowlinson Timber (Rowlinson), which operates a timber-treatment plant at Immingham’s sister port of Grimsby and is seeking to expand its current operations.
The new terminal will comprise a 3,532 sq m warehouse and 49,500 sq m of outside storage space for Rowlinson’s timber imports from Russia, the Baltic states and Scandinavia. In addition, Rowlinson will operate a timber-treatment plant at the new terminal, which will protect timber against decay and insect attack. It is expected that some 10 new jobs will be created by this development.
John Copping, ABP Port Director, Grimsby & Immingham, said:
“We are extremely pleased that Rowlinson, already a valued customer, is expanding its operation and taking advantage of the many benefits on offer at the Port of Grimsby & Immingham. Rowlinson is an excellent customer to work with, and we look forward to strengthening our relationships with the company at all levels.”
John Bate, Managing Director, Rowlinson Timber, said:
“We are delighted to expand our operations at ABP Grimsby & Immingham. As well as the port’s ideal facilities, its location at the heart of the UK enables us to offer our customers a fast and efficient service nationwide.”
The outside storage facilities at Rowlinson’s new terminal have been in use since November 2003, and the timber-treatment facility will be operational from mid-2004.
