NEW CUSTOMER SIGNS UP TO USE £44.5 MILLION TERMINAL AT PORT OF IMMINGHAM
The global power-generation company, International Power, has signed a term agreement with Associated British Ports (ABP) to use the new £44.5 million new coal facility currently being built at ABP’s Port of Immingham.
The new coal terminal, which will become operational in mid-2006, represents a major extension of ABP’s existing deep-water cargo berth, Humber International Terminal, and will be capable of handling up to 7.5 million tonnes of coal each year.It will be equipped with enclosed conveyors and modern dust-suppression systems.
The new terminal, which will serve the UK’s electricity-supply industry, is being built on the back of term agreements between ABP and BHP Billiton, Drax Power and EDF Energy.
In addition to developing a new coal terminal at Immingham, ABP is also developing a £35 million riverside terminal at the port for Danish shipping line, DFDS Tor Line.ABP is investing £27.5 million in the new facility, which will also become operational in mid-2006.

Bob Kendrick, Fuel Manager, International Power, said:
“There is a real need for the specialist coal-handling facility being developed at Immingham, which will handle imported coal for our power station at Rugeley, near Birmingham.Immingham’s excellent transport links will enable us to supply the coal to the power station quickly and efficiently.”
