ALISTAIR DARLING PRESENTS HONORARY CBE TO ABP's BO LERENIUS

Alistair Darling, Secretary of State for Transport, yesterday (9 November) presented Bo Lerenius with an honorary CBE from Her Majesty The Queen for his services to the ports industry.

Mr Lerenius, a Swedish national, has been Group Chief Executive of ABP Holdings PLC since May 1999 and became Chairman of ABP Holdings' principal subsidiary, Associated British Ports, in September 1999.

At the presentation ceremony held in Scotland Office, Whitehall, The Right Hon. Alistair Darling M.P., said:

"Mr Lerenius has successfully led Associated British Ports through a period of significant change and progress. He has changed the culture of the organisation from the top, down, and introduced new management practices, including an innovative mentoring programme, pairing senior managers with junior staff.

"Furthermore, under his leadership, the 21 ports owned by the company have strengthened their links considerably with their local communities, working with local schools, civic authorities and charities.

"I am delighted that Bo Lerenius's work in the ports industry has been recognised in this way."

In accepting, Bo Lerenius said:

“I am deeply humbled by this award. It is a proud day, not only for me, but for ABP also. It is personally gratifying that my services to the UK ports industry have been recognised in this way, and through my work at the helm of ABP, I will continue to serve it to the best of my ability.”
