PORTS’ ‘E-XMAS CARD’ BENEFITS LOCAL HOSPITAL Entering into the Christmas spirit of giving, once again, Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Grimsby & Immingham has donated £1,200 to Dr Mack’s Cancer Equipment Fund. Nick Palmer, Port Director for ABP Grimsby & Immingham, presented the cheque to Gwen Wright, secretary to Dr Mack and one of the charity’s fundraisers. Dr Mack’s Cancer Equipment Fund was set up 10 years ago to support cancer patients being treated at Grimsby’s Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital. Dr Paul Mack is the hospital’s Consultant Clinical Oncologist and patron of the charity. The fund raises thousands of pounds every year for new equipment directly used in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer at this hospital and for the patients’ comforts in the Macmillan Suite, which is a purpose-built unit for cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. This was partly funded by the charity. This is the third year that ABP has emailed its yuletide greetings in an electronic-Christmas card to its customers and supporters of its 21 ports around the country. By sending an e-card, instead of the more conventional Christmas card, Nick Palmer said the money saved could be used for more worthy causes: “This is a relatively new Christmas tradition that I think is truly in keeping with the spirit of Christmas. We are very pleased to donate the money we save from not sending out cards to such worthy charities as Dr Mack’s Cancer Equipment Fund.” Dr Mack said: “I would like to thank ABP very much indeed for generously donating this splendid amount to our charity. This will go a long way towards buying equipment not readily available from NHS funding. May I take this opportunity of wishing all involved a very merry Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year.” 20th December 2005
