ABP’S CHRISTMAS MESSAGE BRINGS GOOD CHEER TO LOCAL CHARITIES Local charities have good reason to be festive this Christmas season – following a donation from Associated British Ports’ (ABP) South Wales Ports. A total of £1,200 has been donated to St Anne’s Hospice, Newport, and Age Concern Swansea, with ABP South Wales employees, Ben Ball, Marine Officer (Pilot) at Swansea, and Sue King, Commercial Assistant at Newport, personally presenting the donations to the two charities. For the third year running, ABP is utilising the World Wide Web to send its season’s greetings to customers and supporters of the Company’s 21 ports around the UK, saving money otherwise spent on Christmas cards. John Fitzgerald, Port Director for ABP South Wales, said the money saved could benefit those in need: “By sending out our Christmas greetings by e-mail, ABP South Wales have been able to make donations to two local charities. I am pleased that we are able to support St Anne’s Hospice and Age Concern Swansea, and sincerely hope that our donations bring the festive spirit to those which these charities seek to help.” Adrian Hadley, Director of Fundraising for St Anne’s Hospice, thanked ABP South Wales for their donation: “For the past 11 years, St Anne’s Hospice has provided care to over 2,000 people. Annually, it costs £1.5 million to run the hospice, 80 per cent of which is funded by donations from the local community and the wider public. ABP South Wales’ donation will go a long way to help the hospice meet its costs, and I would like to thank them for their generosity.”Mary Pitson, Operations Manager for Age Concern Swansea, echoed Adrian’s sentiments: “Age Concern Swansea, an independent charity which aims to improve the welfare of older people, helped over 6,000 Swansea residents last year. It is with the support of companies such as ABP that we are able to continue offering our services, and I would like to thank ABP South Wales and Ben Ball for their donation and voluntary services respectively.” 22nd December 2005
