PORTS’ ‘E-XMAS CARD’ BENEFITS LOCAL CHARITIES

Entering into the Christmas spirit of giving, Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Ports of Hull and Goole have donated a total of £1,200 to Goole Times’ ‘Help Harley’ campaign and Hull Sea Cadets. In an informal presentation, Matthew Kennerley, Port Director for ABP Hull and Goole, handed a cheque for £600 to Jane Rogers of Goole Times.

The Help Harley campaign was launched a few weeks ago by Goole Times to support the family of one-year old Harley Rooke, who is suffering from an aggressive form of liver cancer. Money is being raised to enable Harley’s parents afford the crippling travel costs of travelling back and forth to be with their son who is being treated at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Hull Sea Cadets rely on donations to pay for various activities and training, and need money to maintain their aging meeting hut.

This is third consecutive year that ABP has emailed its yuletide greetings in an ‘e-Christmas card’ to its customers and supporters of its 21 ports around the country. By sending an e-card, instead of the more conventional Christmas card, Matthew Kennerley said the money saved could be used for more worthy causes:

“This is a relatively new tradition that I think is truly in keeping with the spirit of Christmas. We are very pleased to donate the money we save from not sending out cards to such worthy charities as the Help Harley campaign and Hull Sea Cadets.”

Goole Times’ Jane Rogers said:

“This newspaper is very proud to be able to help Harley and support his family. With this kind donation from ABP, it takes us closer to providing the Rooke family with the money they need to see them through Harley’s battle with cancer. “
