NEW PORT MANAGER APPOINTED FOR PLYMOUTH AND TEIGNMOUTH
Associated British Ports (ABP) has appointed David Atkin – currently Head of Operations at ABP’s Port of Grimsby & Immingham – as the new Port Manager for the Ports of Plymouth and Teignmouth. Mr Atkin, 43, has worked at Grimsby & Immingham for 27 years, becoming General Clerk in the Dock Superintendent’s Office at age 16. Since then, he has worked in a variety of roles including weighbridgeman, dock foreman and operations manager. He was promoted to his current position in March 2002.

Mr Atkin is married with three children and has a BTEC diploma in Higher National Business & Finance.

Matt Jukes, ABP Port Director, Short-Sea Ports, said: “We are delighted that Dave has accepted this challenging and exciting role. Plymouth and Teignmouth are important ports for ABP and we have undertaken significant investments in recent years to improve these facilities, through the development of the Brittany Ferries Terminal at Plymouth and, more recently, through the investment in Western Quays at Teignmouth.  We now need to build on these investments by working with our existing customers and through the development of new trades.  With his combination of operational and commercial experience from Grimsby & Immingham, Dave is the ideal man for the job.”

Plymouth and Teignmouth are two of ABP’s 11 short-sea or “medium-sized” ports. Teignmouth has an international reputation for handling ball clay and also handles large volumes of animal feed and fertiliser. Plymouth supports a wide range of roll-on/roll-off operations, including purpose-built facilities for cruises, passenger ferries and freight.
