STEVEN YOUNG APPOINTED DEPUTY PORT MANAGER, ABP SOUTHAMPTON
Captain Steven Young, currently Harbour Master at Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Southampton, has been promoted to the post of Deputy Port Manager for the port.

Steven has been Southampton’s Harbour Master since October 2004, a role which includes responsibility for the enormous number of vessels – both commercial and leisure – that use the Solent and Southampton Water. In total, he has worked at the Port of Southampton for 12 years.

Steven, a master mariner, joined ABP as Deputy Harbour Master, Southampton, in 1990, remaining in the role for over 9 years. After this, he spent five years as Port Manager for ABP’s Ports of Barrow and Silloth in Cumbria, before returning to Southampton. His earlier career included a stint as Operations Staff Manager for BT Marine and 14 years with the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company, for which he served variously on cargo, container and cruise ships. He is married with three children.

Doug Morrison, ABP Port Director, Southampton, said: “We are very pleased that Steven has accepted this role and I look forward to working with him on the commercial side of our operations at Southampton. As well as being a competent and reliable Harbour Master, Steven has played a major role in formulating a sustainable strategy to increase our container capacity  – by some 85 per cent to at least 3.7 million TEU – which has the potential to be one of the most exciting developments here for many years.”
