WIND OF CHANGE THROUGH THE PORT OF HULL

The Port of Hull, owned and operated by Associated British Ports (ABP), witnessed the first of a number of vessel-calls at the port, discharging wind-turbine sections destined for three land-based wind farms in the north of England.

The first of these vessels, m.v. Nina, arrived at the port’s Queen Elizabeth Dock from Rostock recently, shipping two turbines which were discharged by local stevedores Global Shipping Services. The turbines, which were manufactured by Nordex Energy in Germany, will be installed at Loftsome Bridge near Goole in East Yorkshire. GP Shipping acted as port agents for this shipment.

A further 26 wind turbines, expected to generate 500 kW each, are to be shipped through the Port of Hull and delivered to Scout Moor wind farm for developers Peel Wind Power Ltd, a subsidiary of the property and transport group, Peel Holdings Ltd. Scout Moor wind farm is located north-east of Manchester on the Rossendale/Rochdale border in Lancashire. Additionally, two turbines will be shipped and delivered to Spencer Farm in Lincolnshire.

Matthew Kennerley, ABP Port Director, Hull & Goole, said:

“These are non-traditional import cargoes, which we are very pleased to welcome and handle at the Port of Hull, for they illustrate the port’s overall flexibility in cargo-handling. It is also very uplifting to know that we are part of a chain of logistics, delivering environmentally friendly means of producing energy.”
