Handling equipment grabs attention at ABP's Humber ports

Cargo handling capacity at Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Humber Ports of Grimsby, Immingham, Hull and Goole received a boost following the delivery of two Liebherr A 944 c HD Litronic material-handling machines. The delivery is a first for the Humber ports and represents an investment by ABP of £1 million.
The Liebherr material-handlers have been working successfully at all four Humber Ports. They provide diverse solutions, with highly efficient and consistent handling applications including vessel loading/discharging, stockpile management and vehicle loading. Its adaptability and flexibility means it can handle a wide range of commodities such as dry bulks and packaged cargo, as well as scrap metal and project cargoes.
“Compared to recent large crane purchases these machines are focused on servicing smaller vessels. It does deliver a new type of flexibility and consequently will enhance our operational capabilities and expand the range of services available at our Humber ports,” said John Fitzgerald, Port Director for Grimsby & Immingham. “The continued investment in port infrastructure by ABP, in difficult trading conditions, demonstrates our commitment to providing our customers with flexible services tailor-made, their individual requirements.”
Matt Jukes, Port Director for Hull & Goole, said: “The flexibility of this equipment means that it can be transferred between port operations, or even ports, and this will enable ABP to offer an even better service to our customers on a Humber region basis.”
