Associated British Ports (ABP) has announced the publication of its Corporate Responsibility (CR) Report for 2009, which is available for download at http://csr.abports.co.uk/. The report details ABP’s performance for what was a successful year in terms of corporate responsibility for the company. During 2009, ABP achieved 18 of the 23 CR targets, with highlights including improved performance on sickness and absenteeism; good progress on a range of employee initiatives; and a reduction in reportable injuries. During the year ABP obtained several accolades in recognition of its efforts. The company became Britain’s first port owner to attain the Carbon Trust Standard, having demonstrated good carbon management and a reduction in carbon emissions between 2006 and 2008. Hams Hall, ABP’s intermodal rail freight terminal near Birmingham, won an Environmental Innovation Award at the 2009 Rail Freight Group Awards. ABP retained the Silver band status in Business in the Community’s (BitC) 2009 Corporate Responsibility Index, demonstrating effective stakeholder engagement and improvements in management and performance. The company is also involved in The Prince’s Mayday Network, an initiative convened by BitC for businesses to monitor and report back on emission reductions. Peter Jones, ABP Chief Executive, said: “Our 2009 report shows a continued commitment to corporate responsibility across the Group and identifies our key targets for 2010. CR is embedded in the way ABP operates and the compilation of the report brings together many case studies that we hope our stakeholders will find of interest.” For the second year running employees from around the ABP Group are taking part in the 24 Peaks Challenge to raise money for Seafarers UK, having been named as the top fundraisers for the 2009 event. Commenting on the level of dedication to good CR practice across the Group, Peter went on to say: “We are extremely proud of our employees’ efforts and it is encouraging that this year we have more teams taking part in what is an excellent event for a very worthy cause. I look forward to taking part in this year’s event and hope that ABP will exceed last year’s fundraising effort.” - ends - ![]() 17th June 2010
